Five Pillars of Islam
The five pillars of Islam are stated below;
Shahadah: Faith:- At the first place, Muslims need to have faith in Allah. In order to be a Muslim a person has to read out Kalimae Tayyaba and needs to understand its meaning. The meaning of this worse is that there is no God except Allah, and The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) is the messenger of Allah. The further explanation of first pillar is that a person needs to have faith in Allah, his prophets, angels, the day of judgment, the holy books, the fate is decided by Allah and to reborn on the day of judgment.
Salah: Prayer:- Salah is a specific sort of prayer that Muslims have to offer five times a day. This is the major obligation in Islam. There is a specific way to perform Salah, and it cannot be performed in any other way, and there is specific timing to offer Salah, and it cannot be performed whenever a person wants. From the age of 13 years till death Muslim have to perform this obligation. Salah is performed in a form of team as to where one person is a team leader who is recognized as Imam and other persons are followers to Imam. Before Salah Adan is voiced so Muslims come to know that this is the time for Salah and should come in Masjid. This is compulsory to voice Adan before every Fard Salah. In the Quran and Hadith, a great importance of Salah has been described. Masjids are the places as to where Muslims are expected to offer Salah.
Zakāt: Charity:- Zakat is the third pillar of Islam. Zakat is an obligation on those Muslims which have a certain amount of money and resources reserved with them for a period of 1 year. Muslims have to pay 2.5% Zakat of their total wealth. By giving Zakat, Muslims can purify their money. Zakat is to be paid as a charity to poor people. Those Muslims who are paying Zakat are not entitled to take Zakat. So, there are two groups of people defined in Islam, one group has to pay Zakat, and the other group can take Zakat. This is a responsibility of those Muslims to find those other poor Muslims whom Zakat can be paid. Different sorts of other charities can be paid to Non-Muslims, but Zakat has to be paid to poor Muslims only. It cannot be paid to Non-Muslims. The period of Zakat starts from the day a person gets the money, and after a year he has to pay Zakat.
Sawm: Fasting:- The fourth pillar of Islam is Sawm. A person has to do fasting from Sehr till sunset. Fasting of one complete month of Ramadan is an obligation on Muslims and apart from the month of Ramadan Muslims can do fasting but this is not obligatory. In fasting, Muslims can take two meals in a day. One meal at the time of Sehr that is before rise of sun and the other meal they can take after sunset as an Iftar. Ater sunrise and before sunset, Muslims cannot take any meal.
Hajj: pilgrimage to Mecca:- Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam. It is an obligation on those Muslims only which can afford expenses of Hajj and do have a good health. Hajj is performed in the city of Mecca where there are a lot places as to where pilgrims have to visit and at certain places they need to stay there as well. Hajj can only be performed in the 12th month of Islamic calendar an in specified dates only.
